I didn’t pick it up expecting anything dramatic. Just a quiet evening, a blanket that was still warm from the radiator, and the kind of tired that isn’t solved by scrolling. Two chapters in, I realized I hadn’t checked my phone once—and that felt almost suspicious, like I’d accidentally stepped into a calmer version of my life.

There’s a particular kind of book that does that: it doesn’t shout for your attention, it simply earns it. The writing is steady, confident, and so immersive you start hearing the characters’ voices when you make tea. I caught myself reading slower on purpose, not because it was hard, but because I didn’t want to rush the feeling of being fully present.

Now I’m making a tiny ritual out of it. A few pages before bed, no pressure to “finish,” no race to the plot twist—just the soft proof that my mind can still settle. It’s strange how a story on paper can feel like a reset, but lately I’ll take any kind of gentle that I can get.
